Re: New Powders from Hornady

Wonder what they are exactly? It's hard to imagine a single powder that would be "the best" in both the .308 and .450B Leverevolution loadings.

Re: Cast bullet updates

I won't know for sure until I get the checkmaker. I think it works in two parts, the first cuts a disk out of a strip of copper, the second forms it into the check. What I ordered is a check maker for putting checks onto plain base designs, so the check is both slightly bigger, and taller. Pat claim...

I'm still waiting for my checkmaker from Pat Marlin. I'll let you know when it gets here.

Re: which crimp?

I'm not a commercial ammo manufacturer. My opinions are based solely on my own experience. They are worth just what you paid for them. It's a little tough to tell from your pics exactly what's going on. However, it looks like your side crimp is much lower, and tighter, than mine. I've been using the...

Re: Some Cast Bullet Trials - A Joint Project

Generally cast boolits should be sized to fit the throat, rather than the groove diameter. If gas can get past the boolit in the throat it will lead the bore and accuracy will be poor. I size the boolits I use in my .450B to .453 and get no leading at all. I think the chrome bore may be pretty cast ...

Re: toppin' it off

I've had excellent luck with my Leupold "Ultimate Slam" 3x9 muzzle loader scope. The BDC reticule at 9X is a match to the Hornady factory ammo, and my reloads, throwing the 250 grain FTX at 2,200 fps which makes it a no brainer out to 250 yards. At 300 yards you're holding on the top of th...

Re: Bullet swaging for the 450b --CHEAP!--

I've not done any swaging myself. It seems like a lot of extra work for anything under 2,500 fps as I can just use cast boolits. However I do know that .40 S&W brass is often used as jackets for 45 colt and 45/70 bullets. The rims are left as is and they seem to shoot just fine at those velociti...

Re: Some Cast Bullet Trials - A Joint Project

PB, I'm feeling bad now as I have a tray of cast boolits turning gray on my loading bench that I had promised to send you over a month,(two months?) ago. Things have got busy at work and free time has gotten scarce. I'll try and get them in the mail this week. I think you are way light on the 300 gr...
